This page explains how to delete your Trader Wallet account, what is deleted, what is kept, and for how long. You can delete your account from inside the app, or by writing to us if you no longer have the app installed. Both routes are described below and both lead to the same deletion.
Trader Wallet is a self-custodial wallet. Your crypto wallet and the funds on the blockchain do not belong to us and are not deleted when your account is deleted. They live on public blockchains, which we do not control and cannot alter.
But you will lose access to them unless you have your recovery phrase. If you created your wallet by signing in with Apple or Google, an encrypted copy of your recovery phrase is stored so that you can restore the wallet on a new device. That copy is deleted together with your account. After that, the only way back into your wallet is the recovery phrase itself.
Write down your recovery phrase and keep it somewhere safe before you delete your account. We cannot recover it for you: it is encrypted with a password we never receive, so neither we nor our hosting provider can read it.
Two different things can be deleted, and it is worth knowing which one you want:

This is the fastest route and it completes immediately. Open Trader Wallet and:
Your data is then removed from our servers and your account is closed. Nothing is queued and nothing waits for review.
The same option is also available from the account sheet on the Grünwald assistant screen. Both lead to exactly the same process.
If you have uninstalled the app or cannot sign in, write to us and we will delete the account for you.
We acknowledge every request within 5 business days and complete the deletion within 30 days of confirming that the request comes from the account holder. In practice it is usually much faster; the limit is the one set by the GDPR, and we hold ourselves to it.
We may ask you one question to confirm that the account is yours — for example, to reply from the email address the account was created with. We ask for as little as possible, and we never ask for your recovery phrase, your private keys or your password. Nobody from Trader Wallet will ever ask you for your recovery phrase. Anyone who does is trying to steal from you.
If you do not receive an acknowledgement within 5 business days, please write again — mail does occasionally go astray, and we would rather answer twice than not at all.
All of the following is removed from our systems:
These are anonymised rather than deleted. Everything that identifies you — your handle, name, avatar, league and wallet address — is removed, and the comment is marked as written by a deleted account. The text stays so that the conversation other people were having does not fall apart around it. If you want a specific comment removed entirely, delete it in the app before deleting your account, or ask us in your email and we will remove it.
Four things survive deletion. Each is either impossible for us to remove, needed to stop the same reward being claimed twice, or required of us by law.

Payments and subscriptions are handled by Apple and Google, not by us. Deleting your Trader Wallet account does not cancel a subscription and does not delete the records Apple or Google hold. Manage or cancel a subscription in the App Store or Google Play, and see their own privacy policies for what they retain.
There is no waiting period and no grace period. Deletion is not reversible and we do not keep a copy in case you change your mind. Encrypted backups of our databases may still contain your data for up to 30 days before they age out; those backups are not used to serve the app and are not searched or restored except to recover from a failure.
If you want to stop being visible in the social features but keep your account, your wallet and your encrypted recovery-phrase copy, you do not need to delete your account.
In the app, open the Social tab, open your profile for editing, and choose Delete public profile. Your handle, published trades, comments and likes are removed, your @handle is released, and your trader points and league are lost permanently. Your account stays, and you can make your account public again later.
